Is this a great summer or what? Bear hunting was OK, the crappie fishing was great and now the high mountain streams and lakes are in full bloom. I've hung into some huge trout. As we speak the options are limitless as to what to do on a weekend.
Like I say, the fishing in the high country is great as we speak. So is the warm water fishing. A kid and I caught over a 100 perch at Cascade last Saturday in 5 ½ hours and to top that off we stopped and picked huckleberries on the way up. They are thick this year. Mom is coming up from Texas tonight and I'm going to make her some homemade huckleberry ice cream. They also make great smoothies.
If you want a kicked back evening go over to Brownlee and catfish all night. We've been getting some nice ones. They eat about anything, but the smellier that your bait is, the more likely that they'll find it. At dark we're catching them close to the shore.
I saw a few carp the other day but didn't have much shooting, so bowfishing is another option to fill your weekend - plus it will help the lakes to get rid of them. Mowing the yard, sleep etc. is all overrated. Don't let a great Idaho summer slip through your fingers. Get out and enjoy it.
