There was the strangest story I have ever heard on The View this morning. A perfectly normal couple, with perfectly normal children, had been put through hell because of their photographs. While I can't say I am a huge "View" fan, I do like to watch their "Hot Topics" when I am home from the jobsite, and yes, you read that right, they were put through Hell
It seems a couple turned in their rolls of film, or their card, I wasn't paying that much attention at that point, to a Walmart Photo Center to have them printed. The next thing you know, they are arrested, their kids are taken away, and they spend the next two years in agony, racking up huge debt, trying to right a huge wrong.
This couple was the all American couple, she was a teacher at a local school district, but an employee at Walmart decided they were the epitome of child abusers. Why? Because the pictures that were developed had nude photographs of their children. Playing in the bathtub, getting rubbed down by towels, running through the house, all naked of course. How dare these people exist in the real world?!
The Walmart employee called social services, and the rest is history. Not only did the mother lose her job, but their children were actually removed from the home, and they were arrested and listed as sex offenders. They spent their life savings trying to get their kids back and defend themselves.
All I can say is....what has happened to our country?! Why is it that we have no ability to swing in the middle? The pendulum goes too far one way and we freak out, then it goes too far the other way, and good people are penalized. We have to learn how to discern facts and fiction, life and lies. We cannot continue to rebound with our guts, and not use our brains.
This is a sad story that just amplifies our need for common sense. Who of us don't have pictures of our kids naked, coming out of the tub, or running around being silly? In the political climate of today's society, we are all sex offenders. I find this ridiculous, and we need to find a way to stop the absurdity. I don't want true sexual offenders to have an easy path to their perversion, but we have to find a level of common sense in our society. Otherwise, the next thing you know, it could be you defending your life and fighting for your own children.
