There was the strangest story I have ever heard on The View this morning. A perfectly normal couple, with perfectly normal children, had been put through hell because of their photographs. While I can't say I am a huge "View" fan, I do like to watch their "Hot Topics" when I am home from the jobsite, and yes, you read that right, they were put through Hell

It seems a couple turned in their rolls of film, or their card, I wasn't paying that much attention at that point, to a Walmart Photo Center to have them printed. The next thing you know, they are arrested, their kids are taken away, and they spend the next two years in agony, racking up huge debt, trying to right a huge wrong.

This couple was the all American couple, she was a teacher at a local school district, but an employee at Walmart decided they were the epitome of child abusers. Why? Because the pictures that were developed had nude photographs of their children. Playing in the bathtub, getting rubbed down by towels, running through the house, all naked of course. How dare these people exist in the real world?!

The Walmart employee called social services, and the rest is history. Not only did the mother lose her job, but their children were actually removed from the home, and they were arrested and listed as sex offenders. They spent their life savings trying to get their kids back and defend themselves.

All I can say is....what has happened to our country?! Why is it that we have no ability to swing in the middle? The pendulum goes too far one way and we freak out, then it goes too far the other way, and good people are penalized. We have to learn how to discern facts and fiction, life and lies. We cannot continue to rebound with our guts, and not use our brains.

This is a sad story that just amplifies our need for common sense. Who of us don't have pictures of our kids naked, coming out of the tub, or running around being silly? In the political climate of today's society, we are all sex offenders. I find this ridiculous, and we need to find a way to stop the absurdity. I don't want true sexual offenders to have an easy path to their perversion, but we have to find a level of common sense in our society. Otherwise, the next thing you know, it could be you defending your life and fighting for your own children.

common sense is situational, and thus is not law, which is fixed and formulaic by its nature. "Flexible" law is an oxymoron. It's codified, and intentionally so. The question isn't whether these parents should have had to answer an inquiry - it's why it cost so much, and took so long.

Why are Walmart employees looking at my photos anyway!!! Maybe they turned these people in to hide their little "secrets". COME ON FOLKS, USE YOUR HEADS! HAS COMMON SENSE GONE THE WAY OF THE 8 TRACK!!!

When you work at a photo developing place, you have to look at the pictures! This is to see if the color needs adjusting, the machine is working properly, the chemicals need changed.... That worker acted in good faith. If this was a bad arrest, that is on the investigators. I have worked at a photo shop for a lot of years (before youtube and digital cameras) and people often brought in photos of illegal activity. Police could not use the photos I provided as evidence, but they could begin an investigation. If their investigation provided enough other evidence to get a warrant to enter the residence they could specifically look for the copy of the photos the suspects purchased from me and use those as evidence. This being the case, there had to be more to this story than some simple photos that was described in their story. I am sorry for what these people have gone through if they truly are innocent. However, I have been so jaded by so many people publicly whining about their innocents only to find out they were leaving out huge gaps in their stories (you know those silly details that would put question marks in our minds if not totally change our opinion). Additionally, I have little confidence in the people behind "The View" to dig out the whole story if doing so may hurt their ratings.

Same thing with disciplining our kids in public. First thing I think after giving a little swat on the bottom or had is "ok, who just watched that and wonders if I beat my kid." I shouldn't have to worry about that. If the kid is being disobedient, I need to discipline. How many of us didn't get swatted. And yes, I have pictures of my son in the bath. I actually put a little digital fishy over his parts just so if anyone did see the picture they wouldn't think anything. I am glad that there are people looking out for our kids. I don't think the Walmart employee was necessarily in the wrong Better safe than sorry. But at what point did the prosecution decide it was necessary to prosecute instead of saying, "yep, these are just of your kids and it is obvious the situation is not questionable." I feel horrible for the family that their savings was wasted. But more importantly I can not imagine the horror of having my child taken away because someone was trying to 'protect'them from a threat that wasn't there. I just can't imagine. Poor family.
