I’ll give credit where credit is due, and for this space, today, that goes to the Idaho Vandals.

The Vandals ended their more than two year drought against FBS teams last weekend with home win over New Mexico State. Well done, Vandals, well done.

It wasn’t pretty (there were a combined seven turnovers) and it wasn’t clean (both teams combined for 10 of 28 on third down) but for...read more

Just like in 2004, Boise State may be the odd team out when it comes to a BCS bid.

The good news Sunday afternoon was that the Broncos were in the top 12 of the first installment of the Bowl Championship Series standings. The bad news: Utah is ranked above them and Texas Christian is hot on their tails.

Remember 2004? That’s when Boise State was ranked No.9 in the BCS and got snubbed because of Utah, which was ranked No.6. The Broncos went to the Liberty Bowl and still played a really good Louisville team, while Utah went to the Fiesta Bowl.

Remember, just because the Broncos are in the top 12 (which automatically qualifies a non-BCS team for a BCS berth) doesn’t mean they automatically get a spot if another team, like Utah or TCU, is ahead of them. The Broncos still could get in, especially since they had a great showing last time.

But TCU, ranked two spots behind Boise State at No. 14 has the best shot as it still has to play Utah. It already beat BYU, which is ranked No. 21.

But all this talk is moot if Boise State doesn’t keep on winning.

And this week’s test at San Jose State — a place that gave Hawaii a scare last season and almost topped Boise State the past two times — is a true test. One that, if overlooked, may end its BCS hopes

A dark Qwest Arena before the puck drops.

Utah takes game in shootout

Idaho was only able to score once in the shootout, while Utah scored three times. With that, Idaho falls 3-2 in the season opener.

Going to OT

With the game tied 2-2, the game now goes to overtime.

Game still tied

With less than 5 minutes to play, the game is still tied 2-2.

Utah ties it up

Idaho can't stay out of the penalty box, giving Utah more...read more

So the Humanitarian Bowl, the same game that’s had the likes of Miami, Louisville, Clemson and Georgia Tech play at Bronco Stadium, has gone off and made a bad move.

That’s right, the powers-that-be who run the Truck Stop Bowl have signed a deal with the Mountain West Conference, the Western Athletic Conference’s twin brother when it comes to football.

Greetings from Bronco Stadium — it's 75 degrees at kickoff.

Boise State 27, Hawaii 7

Boise State added another score, a 43-yard FG from Brotzman. The FG was set up by Thompson, who added yet another interception, his third on the game.

Boise State 24, Hawaii 7

Boise State got another turnover, and another pick, this time from Jeron Johnson. Boise State took advantage and went 41 yards for another TD, this time another TD from Moore to Austin Pettis...read more

The Aggies upset Nevada last weekend.
So why can just about every team in the Western Athletic Conference pull some type of upset?

Well, other than Idaho, that is.

Last weekend, it was New Mexico State’s turn. The Aggies went to Reno and topped Nevada 48-45, in what is usually a tough place to play. After all, this year’s Nevada team is supposed to be pretty good with one of the best quarterbacks in the West, Colin Keapernick...read more

So I know I didn't think New Mexico State had much of chance against Nevada. But what do I know?

I knew the Aggies would be able to move the ball, but I thought the Nevada offense would be too strong at home. New Mexico State won 48-45 behind 400-plus yards from QB Chase Holbrook. The Aggies may not be contenders yet, basically because they don't have a defense, but what they do have is a winning...read more

Way to mess up the psuedo-Western Athletic Conference title game.

That game will still be played Nov. 28 at Bronco Stadium, but as of now, it certainly won’t have the same meaning as last year’s “WAC title game” between Boise State and Hawaii.

There’s a reason the conference wanted the Bronco-Bulldog game for the season finale.

It won’t have the same meaning...read more

What a great night for a football game.

Broncos now 4-0

Boise State finished off the Bulldogs, and now are 4-0 on the season.

I gotta say it, but I was pretty close on this one. I said Boise State would win 38-12. I guess I underestimated the Broncos' defense.

Harper adds another TD

Boise State scored once more as D.J. Harper scooted for another TD, this time a 6-yarder.

The Broncos now lead 38-3 with 10:59 to play in the...read more
