... after the game against Idaho State I caught Kellen Moore for a few minutes in the hallway of the football center.

He's not going to brag much about himself, but overall, I think he thought he did a pretty solid job. And he did.

On the game, as wrote about in my column, I thought Moore was more than credible to lead this team.

The lone bad decision I think he made that stood out was a pass...read more

My view from my seat in the new sky club (press box).
I arrived here a bit earlier than normal today simply because I wanted to take in the new sky club. I came here for the media tour, but being here for gameday is a bit different.

The first thing I noticed -- in true sportswriter fashion -- was the buffet. It was pretty solid. Pork, salad, and yes, potatoes ... yummy.

But back the game, it should be an interesting one, at least from the standpoint...read more

A look at the new softball field that's taking shape near Mountain Cove High in Boise.
... all we do is talk about football, right? Well, not for these few minutes.

I was out for one of my usual mountain bike rides Friday, and I decided I’d finally snap a photo of the new softball field taking shape next to Mountain Cove High School (near the Boise Military Reserve).

I usually head up that way for my rides and have watched the progress at the new field take shape the past few...read more

But don’t think for a minute that these games will be lost in our memory banks anytime soon. After all, these Games may have been the best of all time.

I know a few weeks ago, many people I talked with were simply not interested. I think those people may have had a change of heart considering all the memorable moments that came from the Beijing Games.

There was of course Michael Phelps’...read more

... and there were little surprises in terms of the WAC. They picked — like most people have so far — Fresno State to win the conference.

Boise State, Nevada, Hawaii, La. Tech followed. I'm sure you can figure out the bottom three, since they never seem to change.

That ranking makes them the highest ranked WAC team in that poll.

And if anyone missed this, here's a story on my new favorite WAC coach, also from the USA Today. I say he's my favorite since he's got a workload unlike most college football coaches in the modern era.

... starting the season with an young guy at quarterback, that is. I’ve been known to root for my home state Michigan State Spartans from time to time, so when I noticed late Thursday night that Cal (Sparty’s Week 1 opponent) had just pulled a Boise State, it got me thinking.

No, they didn’t implement the Statue Left, but what they did do was send senior Nate Longshore to the pine...read more

By we I mean some of the local media, or at least some of us here at the Idaho Press-Tribune.

I know I put on my objectivity cap the last few months and really tried to look at this race for what it was: A young gun going after the senior for the starting quarterback spot on one of the best mid-major teams in the nation.

Pretty simple, eh?

I guess not. And I guess I was dead wrong. I really thought...read more

... That’s right, it’s been a while (or at least it felt like it did until I got back to work this afternoon) since I’ve posted. It’s back to the grind from now to the end of football season.

If you're wondering, I took the family to SoCal a bit of a break.

This afternoon, myself and a few dozen other fellow media folks, were invited to take a look at the Stueckle...read more

Photo by: AP Photo/Mark DuncanWashington Redskins quarterback Colt Brennan throws a touchdown pass to running back Marcus Mason in the fourth quarter of the Hall of Fame football game against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday in Canton, Ohio. The Redskins won the exhibition game 30-16.
Did anyone really think Colt Brennan wouldn’t transition to the NFL?

The former Hawaii quarterback led the Washington Redskins back from a 16-9 deficit Sunday night to top the Indianapolis Colts in the first preseason NFL game of summer.

Brennan hit Maurice Mann for a 20-yard strike to give the Redskins the lead and then added another score on a 5-yard pass to Marcus Mason in the fourth quarter...read more
