Robb Akey

This season mark year three for Robb Akey on the Palouse. Akey is pumped as usual for good things to happen to the Vandals.

"We're bigger, we're faster, we're stronger," he said.

Akey talked about how the team has more depth than in the past, but still have a few holes they need to fill to be a complete team. Avoiding injuries is also key.

"We got better players, but we got to keep those players on field," Akey said.

Greg McMackin, Hawaii

Coach Mack is back for his second season as the head man at Hawaii. Last season, the Warriors were not too shabby with a 7-7 record.

This season is a special one for the Warriors, who mark their 100th anniversary of football.

With that said, it may be another year of rebuilding, largely because there are many unknowns for coach Mack and his team.

"We're an unknown team because we have a lot of guys who haven't played," McMackin said. "We have a lot of guys with potential."

One key spot for the Warriors is Greg Alexander, the senior QB who started the final six games.

"I'm really excited about him," McMackin said.

Gary Andersen, new Utah State head coach

If you're a Utah State fan, you gotta be happy with the hiring of Gary Andersen, the former defensive coordinator at Utah.

He's an intense guy and he showed a little of that with his comments to the media this morning.

Andersen did say there are some strong attributes to the team he inherits.

"The biggest positive I saw when I took over the team was our ability to run," he said.

Andersen has been and was again vocal about getting to the level of Boise State.

"The last time I played Boise (at Utah in 2006) we got our fanny kicked. That's who we're trying to chase," he said.

Day 2 ready to start

The second day of the Western Athletic Conference media preview is ready to get started.

First up to talk to the media is new Utah State coach Gary Andersen.
