Dan's new online videos are at HGTV. There are four. There are four videos and you can watch them at the main Design Star page. They are halfway down the right side.

Listen up, Dan Vickery fans. Design Star's "fan favorite" has posted four short videos at HGTV and he's revealed plans for his upcoming HGTV.com show.

Remember that awesome nursery for Jason Priestley? And the custom bed with a sliding desktop and built-in storage in the final challenge? Evidently the fans loved those episodes so much that HGTV and Dan have decided that his online show will share ideas for kids' rooms.

Yes, that's a picture of Dan when he was young. I remember the time when my husband and I took care of Dan and his sister for a long weekend. We had two boys as well and the four — all under the age of 5 — played house in the big applicance boxes we taped together. We cut holes for doors and windows. And wouldn't you know it? Dan — the oldest — was drawing curtains around the windows and coloring them in.

Dan says he doesn't have his own children but he has a godson and has several cousins with kids and has more ideas to share. Plus, he wants your ideas. Just post them on the Design Star blog,

Dan also congratulates Season 4's winner, Antonio Ballatore, who "nailed the hosting all season long."

Dan also thanked friends, family, fans and online viewers for the votes that made sure he won the first-ever online show.

Have you wondered about some of the behind-the-scenes action? There must have been many interesting happenings. Dan shares a couple of stories, including the time that Nathan and Dan raced with shopping carts in a parking lot when they showed up an hour before the store opened. You'll have to watch the video to learn what two women were in those shopping carts.

And there's the time when Dan laughed so much that they started to laugh about his laughing - and finally determined that it sounded like a "vampire monkey."

And the memories? So many, Dan says. Even though you didn't see it on the show, the contestants had a lot of fun and made many friendships. Disconnected from the world, they often stared outside at the unheated swimming pool. But they also goofed around.

Apparently Jason Champion popped up through the middle of the big dinner table - remember the big hole in the middle - providing plenty of laughs as the "talking head."

Finally, when Dan's family and Antonio's family and friends gathered for breakfast on the first day of the final challenge, Antonio wanted to "hit on" Dan's very tall sister, Karen.

It was probably a good thing that Antonio resisted the temptation, Dan said, because Karen isn't afraid to say what she's thinking ...

I'm sure there are dozens of other stories. Think of the page views HGTV could rack up if they aired some of those hilarious moments.

I was very upset that Anotnion was selected as the new design star. I liked Dan and Loni, so much. Why did only 3 judges get to pick? Dan is much more photogenic. His voice is good, his ideas fantastic. I didn't like any of Antonio's ideas or his personality. I doubt that I will watch his show. CarolG

I would LOVE to see Lonni Paul and Dan do some shows together!!!! I wonder if HGTV would be up for that concept--not to steal Dan's thunder or anything--but she had the best talent of the women--in my opinion. Dana- LOVED! LOVED! LOVED! your entry. I laughed my way all through it. I additionally loved your idea the DIY network offering Dan his own show! I would definitely tune in On a closing note,I am really disappointed in HGTV. Why have a contest if its fan's choice didn't really matter? I can't help but think that all this going to end up biting them back.

Hi Vickie, I'm the host of a communication skills show [published by Macmillan] and I'd be delighted to help Dan. I'm passionate about communication and I know I can help him to improve. Please pass along my contact information if he is interested. You can listen to the show here http://publicspeaker.quickanddirtytips.com or check me out on my own website

I, myself, would have loved for Antonio to hit on Karen just for the pleasure of her putting the little man in his place. Whatever would possess him to think that lovely girl would be remotely interested even if he wasn't competing against her brother? Good grief, that man has a serious problem. I agree with "Show Me" that Antonio did not nail the hosting (though he was apparently trying to nail the women). Yes, he was confident in front of the camera, but it was arrogance as far as I was concerned. He was difficult to listen to, corny, silly, and completely self-absorbed. His hopping around so wildly, smacking on things - boom, boom, bang. I kept waiting for him to use a machete as a pointer. The way he did the "where'd the bathroom go?" bit like he was talking to a five year old. That might have been cute with a little kid, but two adults? Give me a break. As I said on another blog, I kept waiting for him to pull a quarter out of his ear...it was just that silly. Oh gosh, what did I do with that bathroom? Watching him so obviously amused with his own hosting was off-putting. And I'm sorry, but him telling that little 5 yr. old boy there was spaghetti and ham hidden in the drawers wasn't funny, it was mean. Kids believe stuff like that and for him to find it amusing that the little tyke might still be looking for the spaghetti told me all I needed to know about his character. Yes, Dan was a little less comfortable in front of the camera, but he improved greatly with each reveal. The laugh Vern kept harping on, to me was precious and made me feel like Dan was such a down to earth person. There was nothing bothersome about it at all. Vern made Dan self-conscious about something that was very endearing. Dan's huge smile and genuineness was contagious. With a few practice sessions under his belt, he would have been completely at ease in front of the camera. That can be learned. Antonio could study for 40 years and never come close to Dan's talent. Antonio brags about never having studied design - gosh, really? I couldn't tell (sarcasm obvious). The fact Dan's "loss" to Antonio brought about such a rabid response says volumes about Dan's abilities and how he connected with HGTV viewers. The network made a huge mistake going for the brawn instead of the brains. What would tickle me more than anything would be for DIY network to offer Dan his own television show. I would be so delighted and would gladly pay the extra $$ to have DIY added to my channel choices. Dan, you're still the man. Vicky, I think we should start referring to us as Dan Fans. I think that's catchy.

Vickie, I got quite a laugh from your remark about Dan as a child playing in the empty appliance cartons, and drawing in the curtains and coloring them in. What a natural born designer! Another quick comment before moving on: I don't think Dan's competitor in Design Star "nailed the hosting..." by any means. Far from it. Despite the spin calling it "edgy and confident", many saw it as I did, obnoxious, down-market, and arrogant. Dan's underlying hosting abilities were very good; engaging and informative, exactly as they should be. The one overriding issue was his apparent nervousness, which is so easily overcome with some time and practice. Now, to my questions: There is much "hoopla" in the HGTV blogs, even among Dan fans, about the decision to focus the online show on childrens' rooms. While all of us are thrilled to have Dan as the winner of the fan fave vote, and thus his own online show, some are less pleased, and see Dan's design focus as too narrowly formatted. For various reasons, many of his fans would have preferred a wider range of design opportunities to showcase his talents, and to capture far more viewers. I'm well aware that as an employee and spokesman now for HGTV, he would not be able to reveal many details about his meetings with corporate haunchos. (Meaning that his comments have to be, shall we say, "diplomatic.") Regardless, I'll ask: WHO made the request first to do childrens' rooms, Dan or HGTV? Did Dan go into these meetings with a plan to focus on childrens' rooms, or did HGTV bring that into the discussions as an option, or even as a "done deal?" Is it, or was it, as reported, Dan's desire to focus on other types of design challenges? Perhaps the childrens' room format was the result of an ongoing, joint decision in which Dan had equal input and voting power? The bottom line is that Dan should be doing EXACTLY what he personally most desires to do in the field of design, and thus, what makes him happiest. Success, online, on-screen or off, will come naturally as a result, and his growing legion of fans will ensure a long and rewarding career. I hope you, with Dan's straightforward input, can enlighten us.
