Yes, Dan Vickery won the fan vote and he will host the first-ever online show for HGTV.com.
"I just want to say thanks to everyone for voting and supporting me," Dan said minutes after he was notified. "I especially want to thank my sister, Karen Vickery, for rallying the troops."
Dan doesn't have any details yet, but he promised he would let me know as soon as he knows! Here's HGTV's press release!
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - (Business Wire) Dan Vickery, 26, an architect from Portland, Ore., and runner-up in the hit reality competition HGTV Design Star, was selected by an online vote as the series' "Fan Favorite" designer. As the Fan Favorite, Dan has won the opportunity to host his own online design series on HGTV.com
While the new series is expected to launch in early 2010, fans can visit the site within the coming week to view videos of Dan addressing the online community. In these video shorts, the designer will share his thoughts about the whole HGTV Design Star experience, including the finale, the judges' decisions, favorite moments, and behind-the-scenes dish. He'll also reveal the topic of his new upcoming web series.
"After generating millions of page views and votes, we know that HGTV Design Star viewers and online community are excited to see more of Dan," said Jillian St. Charles, vice president and director of HGTV.com. "Over the course of the season, Dan has proven to be a skilled designer and charismatic host. We look forward to adding him to the line-up of experts at HGTV.com."
In the finale of HGTV Design Star that aired Sunday, Dan faced off against set designer Antonio Ballatore in the series' biggest challenge to date: the completion of an entire home makeover. Dan received high praise for his spring-themed makeover for his clients - a mother and daughter in need of a fresh start after a divorce - forcing the judges Genevieve Gorder, Candice Olson and Vern Yip to decide which finalist had delivered the winning design.
Vickery drew high praise for the sophisticated beach nursery he completed for the new son of Jason Priestley and his wife. Dan also impressed the judges with his orchard design during the "white wall" challenge in which finalists chose their design materials from a grocery store. The remarkable results prompted judge Vern Yip to comment that Dan's design was "the single most well-executed, most well thought-out response" he had seen for this challenge.
HGTV Design Star has been a huge hit on HGTV.com with millions of weekly page views driving traffic and video plays, as well as generating three million votes cast to select the Fan Favorite designer. The series helped push HGTV.com into the top 10 TV show websites during the summer. In addition, since the series premiere on July 19, nearly 23.5 million people tuned-in to the fourth season of the show.
Here's the 2-line blog post on Design Star's Web page announcing Dan's win.
