Yes, Dan Vickery won the fan vote and he will host the first-ever online show for HGTV.com.

"I just want to say thanks to everyone for voting and supporting me," Dan said minutes after he was notified. "I especially want to thank my sister, Karen Vickery, for rallying the troops."

Dan doesn't have any details yet, but he promised he would let me know as soon as he knows! Here's HGTV's press release!

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - (Business Wire) Dan Vickery, 26, an architect from Portland, Ore., and runner-up in the hit reality competition HGTV Design Star, was selected by an online vote as the series' "Fan Favorite" designer. As the Fan Favorite, Dan has won the opportunity to host his own online design series on HGTV.com

While the new series is expected to launch in early 2010, fans can visit the site within the coming week to view videos of Dan addressing the online community. In these video shorts, the designer will share his thoughts about the whole HGTV Design Star experience, including the finale, the judges' decisions, favorite moments, and behind-the-scenes dish. He'll also reveal the topic of his new upcoming web series.

"After generating millions of page views and votes, we know that HGTV Design Star viewers and online community are excited to see more of Dan," said Jillian St. Charles, vice president and director of HGTV.com. "Over the course of the season, Dan has proven to be a skilled designer and charismatic host. We look forward to adding him to the line-up of experts at HGTV.com."

In the finale of HGTV Design Star that aired Sunday, Dan faced off against set designer Antonio Ballatore in the series' biggest challenge to date: the completion of an entire home makeover. Dan received high praise for his spring-themed makeover for his clients - a mother and daughter in need of a fresh start after a divorce - forcing the judges Genevieve Gorder, Candice Olson and Vern Yip to decide which finalist had delivered the winning design.

Vickery drew high praise for the sophisticated beach nursery he completed for the new son of Jason Priestley and his wife. Dan also impressed the judges with his orchard design during the "white wall" challenge in which finalists chose their design materials from a grocery store. The remarkable results prompted judge Vern Yip to comment that Dan's design was "the single most well-executed, most well thought-out response" he had seen for this challenge.

HGTV Design Star has been a huge hit on HGTV.com with millions of weekly page views driving traffic and video plays, as well as generating three million votes cast to select the Fan Favorite designer. The series helped push HGTV.com into the top 10 TV show websites during the summer. In addition, since the series premiere on July 19, nearly 23.5 million people tuned-in to the fourth season of the show.

Here's the 2-line blog post on Design Star's Web page announcing Dan's win.

Just wanted to let everyone know I've heard back from Lumber Liquidators. It was pretty much what I expected except they admit they choose where to advertise their products by the number of viewers, not by the type of show, which I thought was somewhat interesting. However, I was not naive enough to think my single letter was going to have them saying - oh you know, you are so right. We will pull our advertising immediately. - I do believe, though, with enough letters, they will rethink this and hopefully something will happen. Sadly in this day and age we can only "vote" with our dollars, so let's bombard them with letters (them and Sears) and hopefully it will make a difference. Maybe I've just gotten too old, but I'm tired of thinking we can't make a difference. I'll let you know when I hear from Sears and please keep the rest of us posted if and when you hear back from either place, too.

Congrats Dan!!! We'll be looking forward to seeing more of your designs. You showed amazing strength of character and composure when you were treated unfairly by the judges.

the judges stole it from you.you had the most wow factor then antonio's.i don't kown what the judges saw in the four rooms antonio did.while my 60 year old eyes saw your rooms i said wow, wow, wow, double wow. antonio should have been voted off and lonni kept.her bedroom was better than antonio's office room. your smile is infectious and your laugh the same. to me you are a gentleman. i complement your mother for the grest job in raising a gentleman.heaven kowns we need more of you.you will go far if not on hgtv it will be on another station. it will be there lost if that happen.as for antonio he won't get far with his demeanor. it's a turn off. keep up the great job and that smile. as for the judges candice, geneveve and vern your shows have been canceled.

Thank you to DANA. Hope honesty and integrity prevails!

I liked Dan too, but thought another person said it best... Break out the garlic and stakes.

What bothers me so much are the comments at HGTV saying a "real man" won. I'm sorry, real men are polite, caring, able to work with a team, respectful and listen to others. In other words...like Dan. Congratulations on your online show, and may your star soar.

This is the letter I sent to Lumber Liquidators and Sears. Of course for those that are writing, you should use your own words, but another person asked for a rough draft of what I wrote, so here it is. Dear Lumber Liquidators, My husband & I recently watched the Design Star series in which Lumber Liquidators kindly provided supplies. As a supporter of this show, I wanted to express my concern over the person they selected to represent HGTV, as well as your company. The appearance of this person (tattoos from head to toe, unkempt hair & clothes) is not my concern. What bothers me is when asked what his most used word is, he stated it was the "f" word. When asked what he liked, he said fast cars & faster women. During the series, he repeatedly questioned if this woman or that woman was "available." He was rude, crude, & sexist. HGTV selected him, not because of any ability to design, but because they thought his "bad boy" image would attract viewers. Instead it has created a firestorm like none other in their history. If you read the online blogs written after their decision was announced, you will see that for every one person who likes Antonio, there's 100 who are outraged. They said Antonio would be a "fresh, new" voice, but frankly, I see nothing fresh or new about his behavior. I'm surrounded by rude, loud, crude people every day. His behavior is quite ordinary. I wanted you to know I will not be watching his show, nor will I be watching future seasons of Design Star. I hope you will reconsider whether your company wants to be associated with this "bad boy of design." Most home owners are turned off by this behavior and it's home owners that buy home improvement products. I hope you will decide to withdraw your support of this show to express your concerns, too, over rewarding this type behavior with their own show. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me.

To Brad Broker: Are you an HGTV employee? Looks like it's an HGTV site, not a fan site. Please clarify to HGTV viewers.
ekonglo - 9:15 AM, Thursday September 17, 2009
TO DANA, Would you be able to post a draft for letter to Sears and its address? I still don't feel comfortable watching HGTV, on or off line. Why should I patronize a network that betrays us? Dan, I hope you didn't get locked in a long contract. You've already earned your place on TV through this challenge. You don't need to prove yourself on line. They should give you your own TV show soon and we should still rally for it. Better yet, I hope I'll be watching you soon on another channel. Many of us questioned your judgment of spending $10,000 on that pergola by the way the scenarios has been represented. HGTV has the moral and ethnical obligation to address and clarify that because your personal and professional judgment is being jeopardized because of their manipulative tactics in broadcasting.
ekonglo - 8:05 AM, Thursday September 17, 2009
To ekonglo, after much searching, I found the mailing address for Sears main holding office which should be a good place to send a letter. It is 3333 Beverly Road, Hoffman Estates, IL 60179. As for Lumber Liquidators, 3000 John Deere Road, Toano, VA 23168. You can also go online to either corporation and send an e-mail. lumberliquidators.com & sears.com & click on "contact us." Although snail mailed letters carry more weight, e-mails are still effective. Basically letters should be polite, professional, brief and just explain whatever concerns we have re: this season's show and winner, & why we feel it was not a good reflection on businesses that supported the show. Hope this helps!

Congratulations, Dan. I had wished that you would hold out for an offer from another network because I simply cannot bring myself to watch HGTV anymore, on or off line. I hope that you have signed a deal that gave you the upper hand. It's because of viewers following you that their ratings go up. Frankly, I don't think HGTV deserves you and it's your gracious generosity that they're able to capitalize on your talents. As for the judges of Design Challenge, you outshine them all! I
ekonglo - 12:09 AM, Thursday September 17, 2009
Congratulations on the online show, Dan... I just heard about it. Me and my team got to vote for you so I am glad it made a difference. I know much has already been decided for your show but if at all possible, I would love to see the industry of interior design be addressed somewhere. We never really got to share in the design process with the show that wanted to focus on all of the "drama". What we interior design students would like to see is the REASON for having a designer versus a decorator. Being able to showcase talents and also showing just exactly what it is a designer can do for you is sort of the responsibility of HGTV, in my opinion. Thanks so much for being a great role model and guide to those of us just starting out in this field and reminding folks looking for professionals out there that design skills and talent are well balanced with integrity and personality. You're awesome Dan... good job and continued good luck. -Rick in South Texas

Congrats to you DAN! This is a great victory for u,for an online show, but still feels as if you got cheated. I know your On-Line show will be seen by Millions each week, and I am proud to be one of them..Your talent and design is so refreshing. I think the reasons u did not win the Television show were obvious..both female judges were in love with Antonio, quite obvious... When it was down to just three of you, the winner was clearly written on the wall. HGTV did not want Lonni to win, for her extreme talent and beautiful designs would have put her show in direct competition with "Devine Design", star Candace..And HGTV and Candace wanted no part of that, so they got rid of her..How sad! Second, came DAN! Antonio, was more of a decorater than a designer..Clearly his work was shabby at best, and I am convinced now that "Kathy Griffin" the loud mouth she is, played a role in his final win. HGTV did not want Dan to win and have another show like David Bromstad's. David and Dan both present class, and clean lines. Wonderful taste, and appearances..HGTV just did not want to upset one of thier TOP shows,"Color Splash" by having another good looking young guy, with the same similarities as David...So they got ride of DAN...How terrible. They wanted a different look, I guess tattoes, beards, and camoflage shorts worn down to the knees are in now, especially for a design show.I guess the Executives at HGTV want to hear a new designer say things like "YO" and use the "F" work all the time, maybe its cool, and will draw a big audience..I wonder how many sponsers will stick around for this gig? Conrats again, Dan...I hope we all see u on TV soon..Love to see you and Lonni do a show together..two great talents...I won;t be watching HGTV anymore, just the new "online" show, with the best looking and most talented designer in America.
Jack in Boca Raton - 10:34 PM, Wednesday September 16, 2009
Dan, I'm so sorry the judges made such a questionable choice. Any show is a group effort, and time after time Antonio showed that he doesn't play well with others. His foul mouth, and dispariging remarks about the other contestants should have sent him home weeks ago. And it really shows a lack of respect for clients and others to arrive for a job looking as scruffy as Antonio. On the other hand, you were always pleasant to everyone, and arrived to meet the clients with a professional attitude and appearance. Way to go! You still have a great opportunity with your on-line show, so make the most of it. GREAT THINGS START NOW! As for the rude comments about the shirt coming off while you were digging up the yard...both you and David should shuck the shirts any time you feel like it.
jpbenicia - 8:37 PM, Wednesday September 16, 2009
People, I think it's time to take the high road and show some civility. Yes, it's great Dan has this show. Now let's focus on that and not criticize Antonio anymore. That's not classy.
Jamie - 8:00 PM, Wednesday September 16, 2009
Although I am tickled pink Dan won this online show, I think it is very important for the irate HGTV viewers still livid over Antonio's win to write to Sears & Lumber Liquidators to express our concerns. In this day & age of hectic lifestyles, it is too easy to think about doing it, then putting it on the back burner. I am in no way related to the Vickerys, just an HGTV viewer who was as upset over this decision (to pick Antonio) as 95% of the rest of you. I am writing to Sears & LL b/c they are the primary supporters of this show. Do they really want someone like Antonio representing them? Someone who, when asked what his most used word is said the f word? Someone who behaves like he does? It's not just the fact Dan has more design talent in his baby toe than Antonio does his whole body, it's how Antonio behaves. Sears is a family store & I can't imagine this is who they want. If Sears & LL pulls their financial support, hopefully it will make a difference. Not that I believe Antonio's show will last long. Dan, I hope it brought you some secret pleasure (that you are too kind to ever admit!) seeing the volume or irate e-mails HGTV received after Sunday night's show. I don't ever recall this kind of reaction before. Anyway, viewers, don't let HGTV get by with this. They say on their website that HGTV viewers, your voices have been heard. No, HGTV, if our voices had been heard, Dan would be given an on-air show. He won the online show hands down, fair & square. He deserved the Design Star show. Just saw where they are rerunning Sunday's show Friday night. As though seeing it once wasn't horrific enough? I can't even watch the commercials w/o fast forwarding or muting it. I am heartsick over this, I really am. Dan, you were accused of being similar to David Bromstad. First of all, you are your own person, not a copy of anyone. Second, yes, there are some similarities in that you are both unbelievably talented, personable, handsome, funny, honest, & kind. Season 2 & 3's winners haven't fared so well. David, on the other hand, has been one of HGTV's top designers ever. So tell me again why you being similar in some ways to their top rated person is a problem? Sorry, I'm just venting. Still so distraught over this whole thing. I will NOT be watching Antonio's show, not even once to laugh at it, and will never watch Design Star again. What I WILL be watching is Dan's online show. Dan, bless you for staying true to yourself and your roots during this. You could have gotten down to Antonio's level but that's just not who you are. There is no doubt you will go far. You are too talented not to. Just watching you think and design was like witnessing angels at work. It just amazes me how your mind can take a room (or a house or a yard) & magically transform it. Breathtaking. Great news on the online show, Dan, but if HGTV thinks this is going to soothe the masses, they are sadly mistaken. Bear hugs!
dana - 6:55 PM, Wednesday September 16, 2009
I will be watching your show, Dan! Congratulations on winning the fan vote; I am not at all surprised. You are THE BEST!
Liz Patch - 6:47 PM, Wednesday September 16, 2009
DAN, NO ONE deserved to win Design Star Season 4 more than you. I'm appalled with the judges bizarre decision, and the absurd basis upon which they claim to have made it. Your success is guaranteed by your outstanding ability, charm and personal integrity. If that is not with HGTV in the longer term, then certainly you will find it within the larger sensibilities of the public realm; on TV, online, or simply as a notable and respected leader in the design community and in the hearts of devoted fans. I'm looking eagerly forward to the next step in your venture with HGTV. Congratulations, the future is yours.
ShowMe - 6:12 PM, Wednesday September 16, 2009
I second, third, forth, etc. to all what you have said Sherry. Now I am not depressed that Dan was not selected to be a host with HGTV. NOW that he has a show, he can prove that he has what it takes to be a host of his own show. THEN HGTV can give him his own show ON TV! NOW THAT WOULD TAKE IT ALL AND GIVE THOSE WHO DO NOT HAVE A COMPUTER THE ABILITY TO WATCH HIM ALSO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ernie - 6:10 PM, Wednesday September 16, 2009
Hey man! The cream always comes to the top!! You are so refreshing to watch. Clean cut, all american look. Be yourself Dan, You have the winning characteristics. Choosing between you and Antonio, who was very talented also, was like choosing between and orange and and apple. The judging is too subjective and they have personal preferences that are not always mainstream. Looking forward to watching your career develop Dan! We love you man!
Jim Wilder - 5:30 PM, Wednesday September 16, 2009
YEA DAN! I will faithfully watch your online show! Your ideas are unprecedented. The boats in the nursery! The closing mirrors, the white apple room, the dining room. The touches you used in decorating were were a so unique. Your friendliness and enthusiasm was so refreshing too. I don't care what the judges said your laugh is who you are! CONGRATULATIONS on your on-line show.I can't wait to watch it!
y neider - 4:40 PM, Wednesday September 16, 2009
Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Way to go Dan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!You deserved it all!!!!!!!!I am so thankful you won your online program and I just praise God for it!!!!!!! You are a 1000 to one better designer than Antonio. I don't think he will last long on HGTV and they will see what a mistake they made! You can come do something at my house anytime to show off your talent. I have a 5 bedroom 3 bath house here in Tennessee and there are always plented of projects to be done here! But really, your work always looked clean, and neat, and finished, and livable, and looked like you put a lot of thought into what the homeowner wants. And that is the way it should be when it comes to interior design! I voted for you 10 times every day and would have done 15 if I had had a cell phone! Congratulations! I wish you all the best with your career! You earned it and you deserve it! Your loyal fan! Sherry
Sherry Butcher - 4:18 PM, Wednesday September 16, 2009
Thank goodness! Can't wait to see how much better Dan's show does vs. Antonios!
Melissa - 3:43 PM, Wednesday September 16, 2009
At least this vote was correct. He should have been chosen the winner for all of the reasons mentioned in the article. I used to watch Candice and Genevieve in their shows but since they could not pick the correct winner for Design Star I won't be watching their shows anymore. They have proven they can't be trusted to make a correct decision.
Scott - 3:16 PM, Wednesday September 16, 2009
Now we truly know who is american's favorite designer.
Jessie Luke - 3:07 PM, Wednesday September 16, 2009
Glad to here that you won the online competion still say judges made wrong choice in picking winner but that's ok like you said in your concession speach you are only 26 and the other one was 40 something so you still have a chance to do it again if the oppertunity arises again and I say go for it guy i know i will be checking your online sight for great ideas often . I think you will be around for along time in the tv/cyberspace design field long after the other one is gone sodon't give up and hopefully we will see more great things for you and of you . great job my friend as from one designer to another I take my hat off to you in such a great job well done thanks Mr Stephen Harriman
Stephen Harriman - 3:01 PM, Wednesday September 16, 2009
That's exciting! Can't wait to see Dan online. Kinda makes a person wonder what the hell the judges (or whoever made the decision) were thinking! Doesn't make much sense to pick the person who is NOT (!!!!) the fan favorite to be the design star! ;-)
