It seems like yesterday when I got news that Dan Vickery, my nephew and godson, was going to be one of 11 finalists for HGTV's Design Star. The first challenge aired Sunday, July 17. Week after week, friends and family gathered at the home of Dick and Bev Vickery in Willowcreek, Ore. One week, family watched from McCall.

But it's become a ritual. Who will bring what for dinner? Who's coming this week? Will he survive this week's challenge? My sons also watched from their homes: Jeff in Seattle with his wife, Jessica, and Scott and Laci in St. Paul, watching the show from their computer via Skype from my computer that captured Design Star from my sister's bedroom, because Scott doesn't have cable TV.

Each week, Dan moved on to the next challenge. There were a few close calls. But it was always fun.

it's been a routine. It's been exciting. Tonight ends that. I can hardly stand the anticipation. I don't want to hear the words: Dan Vickery, your show has been canceled.

But I've braced myself. Judges or not, in my mind, Dan Vickery won. I always tell my kids when they go someplace: Remember who you represent. Your family, your hometown and your school (or workplace.)

No matter the outcome tonight, Dan has remembered all along who he represents as he made his way through challenge after challenge.

His family and hometown of Vale are so very proud of Dan Vickery!

Beautiful family with every right to be proud. Dan has an incredible fan base in the HGTV viewers world! If anyone at HGTV reads their Blog sites, they will surely be giving Dan his own show - he has certainly proven he deserves it! Good Luck and keep on designing!

I think dan vickery should win hands down. he seems to be another carter osterhouse, nice on the eyes, and pleasent to watch. He seems to have the most of everything, sews, carpentry, vision, the whole package. Good luck, Dan you have my vote. I really don't care for antonios tv presence I think he's a jerk.
