After 13 straight losses, Northwest Nazarene's baseball team had reason to celebrate like it had just won a championship Friday when the Crusaders beat St. Martin's 13-3.

Of course, the Saints reaction was a little less impressive as they jeered NNU jubilation.

Yes, it might seem strange to get excited about one win, but then, you really do have to put things in perspective.

No doubt the...read more

Video Note: The College of Idaho's Camron Hammond works a walk after falling behind 0-2 in the count against Patten pitcher Chris Duke in the sixth inning of Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader. Hammond cashed in on the base on balls, stealing second, moving to third on a Bryan Champ groundout and scoring on Dane McGrady's single to center, part of a dominating offensive display by the...read more

Well, I can honestly say I'm glad this week is winding down. It's been busy with softball and baseball games at both schools, and it seems like almost ever day!

Let's start with the big one — at least in terms of getting Northwest Nazarene back on track as the Crusader baseball team finally snapped out of a 13-game skid, pounding St. Martin's 13-3 late Friday night.

It proved...read more

CALDWELL — Pitchers ruled the day Saturday at Wolfe Field, much as College of Idaho coach Shawn Humberger expected.

British Columbia left-hander Mark Hardy proved tough, striking out 10 in seven innings work with a dominating slider.

Yes, frustarting for Humberger.

"He threw that thing at the bottom, at the knee caps, and you know the umpire had a low zone for both of us, but (Hardy)...read more

Tired of seeing your bracket's busted? Me too!

So join me Saturday at the ballpark as the Coyotes look to take control of the NAIA West's North Division against co-leader British Columbia.

The first of two big days at the ballpark begins at 1 p.m. today, Saturday, with a doubleheader. Action continues Sunday with another twinbill starting at 11 a.m.

The series is sure to be a great one...read more

CALDWELL — Yes, there's still 20 games left in the NAIA West race, but this weekend is a must-win series for the Coyotes.

The College of Idaho baseball team hosts British Columbia on Saturday and Sunday in a pair of league doubleheaders at Wolfe Field, and not only is it a big weekend because both teams are tied for the league lead at 10-1, but because these are home dates for the C of...read more

CALDWELL — Is it an overstatement to say the Coyotes got a must-win Saturday in baseball?

Well, maybe a little.

Today's game at noon against No. 7 Lewis-Clark State — the final game of the teams' 3-game series this weekend — likely is more of a must-win for the Coyotes and their psyche.

Why?

The Warriors have been the lone cloud hovering above the College of Idaho the...read more

Well, it turned out to be a disappointing week on the hardwood — both the College of Idaho and Northwest Nazarene women lost in the first round at nationals.

OK, disappointing, but still reason to celebrate as both teams had phenomenal seasons.

Start with the Coyotes, who shook that monkey of coach Reagan Rossi's back. Yep, twice losing in the Cascade Conference tournament game, one of...read more

NAMPA — Now the waiting begins.

The Northwest Nazarene missed a chance to lock up a second-straight berth to the NCAA Division II National Tournament on Saturday, but the wait to see whether the Crusaders are in won't take too long.

The selection show for the tournament will be tonight, Sunday.

And the waiting should be a little less anxious. NNU entered Saturday's game against the...read more

What a wild week — and it's not over yet.

After a day of softball and baseball, with more baseball and basketball on tap for me Saturday, I'm not sure where to start.

Maybe the best place is with the biggest stage — nationals, and the chase for nationals.

The College of Idaho has three teams at nationals and things are going well for the Coyotes as Stephanie Helm and the women's...read more

NAMPA — A win over the second-to-last place team in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference might not seem big, but it sure was for the Crusaders on Thursday night.

One, it keeps Northwest Nazarene climbing the West Region standings — they're sixth now with one game left to play against West Region front-runner Seattle Pacific.

That's a great place to be as the top six are assured...read more
