Welcome back to my weekly rants.

I mentioned there would be more on all the Coyote and Crusader teams as they get the season started, and I guess I need to beg just a few more days indulgence. I've been working hard on getting stories in the paper, for both NNU and C of I, along with balancing everything else, so the extra tidbits and insight — even though some might think mine less than expert — is coming soon.

Plus, I'll admit, it'll be nice to make a few comments after seeing a few games in person at NNU, and a few box scores.

As for seeing games in person, the promise is there for the new Crusader women's soccer team. I encourage anyone who enjoys soccer, or just is a good NNU fan, to head to the field on Saturday, Aug. 29, and catch the ladies as they take on Eastern Oregon at noon.

Maybe the only disappointing thing about Thursday's opener was that the game did end in a tie. I did like the fact that the team and coaches felt they should have done better. That's a sign that last season is forgotten — these ladies expect to win.

Plus, I like the idea of raising money for the kids in Guatemala. What a great idea, and a true show of what these ladies are made of. It'll be exciting to see the pot climb as the season goes along. I even had to joke with sport information director Craig Stensgaard that the school needs a new sound effect for soccer games — a cash register sound to play when NNU scores, instead of the typical "O-laaaay, o-lay, o-lay, o-lay," you might hear at a soccer game.

Well, sorry to be so brief, but it's still early in the season. And there will be more to come soon.
