Congrats to the Coyote softball team, who proved just how good they are Saturday demolishing Southern Oregon. The Raiders came into the doubleheader the "Sweethearts" of the Cascade Conference with surprise wins over just about everybody, and a two-game lead in the standings over the College of Idaho.

But the C of I made short work of the Raiders, proving that the Yotes are truly still the team to beat in the league if any other team is thinking about a trip to the NAIA Softball World Series.

Of course, one thing did come to my attention during Saturday's C of I rout. Walk-up music, and the Coyote ladies request that sports information director Mike Safford play their pre-selected song as each player approached the plate for their at-bat.

No, I'm not commenting on the songs themselves or anything like that. After all, why shouldn't the ladies get a chance to hear something to help pump them up before a big at-bat.

No, I have a different question for the College of Idaho softball team, and I'm not sure if any will bother to read this and offer an answer.

Last year, Donnae Carrell's walk-up song was "Rock Star" by R. Kelly. This year, that song is Kristen Haugen's walk-up song.

My question, of questions: How does Haugen get Carrell's walk-up song?

Does Carrell have to release the song for anyone to use, kind of like a pro player being cut by a team and picked up by another?

Or is it a trade, where one players decides they like another song better and players swamp?

And is there a seniority rule involved, like a senior can pick any song they want even if someone else like it too?

And could two players have the same walk-up song, or would that be taboo?

(Yes, these question are all just for fun, but when you pound the league front-runner the way the C of I did, there's plenty of time for fun, right?)

I am currently an assistant coach on the college of Idaho softball team and was a former player so I can give some good imput about the way it works. Usually one of the seniors will put together the cd and will ask all the girls to email their walk up song selection. They can have any part of any song they want and it will be played when they walk up to bat. Usually girls will pick new songs every year, so that is probably why Kristen was able to get the song that Donnae had last year, because Donnae picked a new song. I don't think we have ever really had trouble though with two girls picking the same song, and if they ever did one of them just changed their pick. The girls will usually have a couple of songs in mind that they want.Or some girls don't really care for a walk up song so they will just play whatever when they get up.But I think if it did come down to the point where two girls really wanted the same song. Senority would rule and the older girl would get the song. I am a big 80's butt rock fan and when I played my walk up song all three years was Journey's Seperate Ways. haha. Didn't have much of a problem with other girls wanting to have it too. Hope that answers your question. Any more things your pondering about I would be happy to answer

I think the music makes the game look more and more classy. At least they have music and an announcer. Last time I went to an NNU game, they had neither. It makes it worth the $5 they charge. That is why I buy a pass
