NAMPA — The Nampa Classical Academy Board of Directors will announce the resignation of three members, including the board chairman, at a meeting Monday night (read the resignation letter).
Board member Michael Moffett told the Idaho Press-Tribune Saturday that he will be acting chairman. He said that the resignations came Oct. 11, days after a special meeting was held with a "board conflict of interest" on the agenda.
After that meeting, former Chairman Kyle Borger sent a letter to academy stakeholders that was obtained by the Press-Tribune. It announced his intent to step down.

Borger confirmed that he sent the letter and said the board hasn't yet officially accepted his resignation. Listed as a business item for discussion and vote on the agenda for the board's Monday meeting is recognition of the resignations of Borger, and members Kris Wilson and Corey Freeman.
"I can say that two regular board members resigned ... and one ad hoc," Moffett said while discussing the Monday meeting. "We're going to announce that we had three resignations and that I am now acting chairman."
In his letter, Borger said he stated at the Oct. 8 meeting that he believed Moffett was unable to place the academy above his interests in his brother, Isaac. Isaac is listed as director of operations for the public charter school, a geography teacher and an ad-hoc board director, according to the academy's Web site.
"A motion was made to remove Mike Moffett from the board. What followed was probably the worst verbal beating I have ever received," Borger's letter said.
Mike Moffett said he could not discuss the issue Saturday night.
The school generated a firestorm of controversy before it opened when leaders announced they planned to use the Bible as an academic text. Borger acknowledged in the letter that he held a special meeting so fewer people would know about it, and that he did not ask Mike Moffett to resign in private.
"I did not call for the question and I asked the maker of the motion to rescind the motion. They agreed," he said in the letter "I did this because I felt that if I went forward with it and Mike Moffett sued the academy as he assured us he would that it would bring more harm to the academy then if I stepped down and let the founders have complete control.
"I am willing to pay for my transgressions and step down as Chairman," the letter continued. "It is clear that I made a mistake and I will step down for the good of the academy."
Borger also included what he called a "few interesting comments" made during the meeting that he said stakeholders need to know about because they will determine the school's future.
"Isaac Moffett declared that he is the vision. (If he didn't say it at the meeting, he has said it at other times and there are witnesses.) It was pointed out to the board that we did not know the vision and each board member was put on the spot to declare their knowledge of the vision. Isaac Moffett is correct. The board does not know the vision that Isaac Moffett is talking about. I do not know the vision that he is talking about," he wrote. "The vision I know is the one that was presented to the Charter School Commission and to the public."
Issac Moffett did not respond to the issue when contacted by an IPT reporter.
